Common Questions
If something isn't clear, it belongs here. These are the questions we hear most often before an organization decides whether the Instrument is right for them.
Frequently asked questions
General
It is a governed visibility layer that collects anonymous, structured workforce inputs on a weekly and quarterly basis and aggregates them into directional signals. Leadership receives a monthly dashboard and executive brief showing whether workforce conditions are stable, drifting, or becoming more volatile. It does not monitor individuals, diagnose problems, or prescribe action.
Pricing is based on workforce size, governance discipline, and interpretive load and is confirmed after an initial conversation to establish fit and scope. We discuss pricing openly once we understand the engagement — there are no hidden fees and no surprises.
The Instrument is designed to work with workforces of varying sizes. Participation levels of approximately 30–40% of the eligible workforce are sufficient to generate stable signal patterns, though this may vary depending on workforce size and structure.
Leadership receives aggregated, non-identifying signal outputs only. No individual responses are ever attributed to a specific employee. Motionwave does not receive or store any mapping between participation codes and employee identities. No one — including Motionwave — can identify individual participants from the data.
Employees complete a short weekly micro-pulse — 60 to 90 seconds — and a quarterly assessment of approximately 6 to 8 minutes. Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Employees are issued simple, non-identifying participation codes by their organization. They enter their code when submitting inputs. No names, no email addresses, no identifying information is collected.
Yes. Optional free-text responses are available but do not influence any scores or signals. They are retained only as reference material if a review is ever needed.
Each reporting cycle includes a static signal dashboard showing core workforce signal indices and participation coverage, and an executive brief summarizing observed signal movement, governed interpretation of what the signals may suggest, explicit boundaries on what they do not indicate, and calibrated leadership prompts to support internal conversation without prescribing action.
The Instrument runs on a 12-month term. If it isn't working at 90 days, there is a clean exit — no penalty and no pressure. This is built into the Master Services Agreement.
No. The Instrument is not a wellness program, an engagement platform, a mental health tool, or an HR management system. It is a governed intelligence system designed to give leadership earlier visibility into workforce conditions. It does not manage people. It manages information under uncertainty.
No. The system is explicitly designed to prevent surveillance. Signals are aggregated and non-identifying. No individual can be identified through the data. No signal authorizes action against any employee. The governance charter — available publicly on this site — defines these constraints permanently and enforceably.
Setup is straightforward. Your organization defines the eligible participant pool and issues participation codes. Motionwave provides the instruments. The first reporting cycle begins once participation is established. There is no complex integration, no IT dependency, and no software to install.
There is no automatic renewal and no pressure to continue. At the end of the term you can choose to continue, pause, or stop. If the engagement has demonstrated governance readiness and interpretive discipline, a conversation about a pilot or longer-term deployment may be appropriate — but this is never assumed or offered by default.
Most pulse survey tools are designed to surface employee sentiment, provide action recommendations, and give managers visibility into their teams. Motionwave is designed to do the opposite — limit what can be seen, prevent individual attribution, and govern how signals may be interpreted. It is a system of constraints, not a system of optimization. The comparison is useful, but the products are fundamentally different in purpose and design.
Yes. A demo of the reporting is available on the homepage. It shows exactly what leadership receives in the monthly reporting package.
